Marathon sits in the middle of the Florida Keys, a string of keys joined by the Overseas Highway with the Atlantic on one side and Florida Bay on the other. A trip here usually mixes a few fixed things, like a reef outing, a beach afternoon or a tour at a wildlife center, with things that move: a fishing season, a holiday parade, a festival weekend. Visit Marathon FL was built to keep both kinds of answer in one place and to show where each one comes from.
What the guide covers
- Beaches and the water: the public beaches and parks, where you can launch a kayak or a boat, and what each operator posts about fees and hours.
- The reef: snorkel and dive trips to the reef offshore, with the Sanctuary rules that apply out there.
- Wildlife: the turtle hospital, the dolphin and aquarium centers and the nature preserve in town, with their own visiting rules.
- Fishing: season dates restated from state rules, never a bag limit we cannot point to.
- The calendar: festivals, holiday events and tournaments, dated only once an organizer posts them.
- Getting around: the mile markers, the airport, the drive in and a day planned along US 1.
How we check a fact
We read the body that sets the rule or runs the place. City parks and City services come from the City of Marathon. Fishing seasons come from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. State parks come from Florida State Parks. Reef rules come from the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Hours and admission come from each attraction or business itself, and festival dates from whoever is putting the festival on.
Next to each fact you will see the source and the full date we read it. Where nothing had been posted yet, the page says so in plain words; it does not borrow last year’s date. Where two official pages disagree, we name both and say which one the page follows.
The trip tools
- What’s in season on a date. Choose a day and see which state fishing seasons are open, where lobster and stone crab stand, which listed events fall on it and whether it is inside hurricane season. You will find it on the events page and on fishing.
- Where can I get in the water? Tick what you want to do, from a swim to a boat launch, and see the public spots whose operators say they allow it. It is on beaches and parks.
- Marathon day planner. Pick a kind of day and it lays out stops in mile-marker order so you are not crossing the island twice. Try it on plan your visit.
The tools and the pages draw on one set of checked records, so a corrected record fixes both at once.
Who is behind it
LPE Realty LLC, a Florida real estate brokerage licensed under number CQ1075686, owns and publishes Visit Marathon FL. The same company publishes community guides to other Florida places, and we say so here so the shared ownership is never hidden. This guide is researched and written for Marathon alone.
Independent of the places it covers
This is not a City of Marathon website, a chamber site, a park site or an official visitor bureau. No attraction, charter, marina, restaurant or hotel bought a mention or reviewed a page before it went up. There are no homes for sale on this guide. If a sponsor ever appears, it will be labeled as sponsored where it appears.
Who writes the pages
AI tools may help draft parts of this site. Every fact is then checked against its source by people on the Visit Marathon FL Editorial Team before it is published, and the byline is that team rather than a made-up writer. The photographs show the real places they are captioned as, and their makers and licenses are listed on the credits page.
Found something stale?
Seasons get revised and fees go up. If you see that a page is behind, tell us which page and where the newer information is posted, through the contact page or at info@lperealty.com. We change the record once the agency or business confirms it, and the checked date changes with it.
Dates, rules and hours can change. The organisers have the final word: City of Marathon (official site)
